The Forest officials on Tuesday arrested three persons on charges of using dogs to poach spotted deer. They were fined Rs 10,000 each and were later released.

Following reports about using dogs to poach spotted deer in the reserve forest areas in Thadagam Reserve Forest in Periyanaickenpalayam range, District Forest Officer V. Thirunavukkarasu formed special teams led by Range Officer M. Nazir.

The teams arrested Senthilkumar (30), Subramani (57) and Palanisamy (35). A deer that was battling for life was also rescued. However, the deer failed to respond to the treatment and died subsequently.

A few days ago, the team led by Mr. Nazir caught four persons when they were found extracting meat from a dead wild boar in the reserve forest area. The wild boar died after it was hit by a speeding vehicle. All the four were warned and were let off after levying a fine of Rs. 2,500 each.
