TIRUNELVELI: Three persons including two women have been killed in two accidents. Police said P. Juliet (53), a teacher from Gandhi Nagar under Pettai Police Station limits and her friend P. Jancy (50) were returning home in a two-wheeler on Tuesday night.

When they reached Old Pettai, a speeding van hit the two-wheeler and hit another bike after which the driver lost control over the vehicle.

While Juliet and Mariappan, who was travelling in another bike, were killed on the spot, Jancy and Marippan’s son M. Petchimuthu (32) sustained severe injuries.

Police rushed the victims to the hospital.

In another incident, A. Paul Samuel of Perinbapuram near here and his wife P. Paulthaai (51) were travelling to Palayamkottai in a two-wheeler. Paulthaai attempted to unfold the umbrella as it rained suddenly, which got swayed away in the gusty wind. When Paulthaai tried to grab it, she lost the balance and fell down from the two-wheeler. Since she sustained bleeding injuries on the nape, she was rushed to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, where she died.
