Three habitual offenders were detained under the Goondas Act in Dharmapuri on Tuesday.

Police sources here said that the offenders were involved in over seven cases of robbery in Dharmapuri and Salem district. They were earlier arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

On the basis of the recommendations of the Superintendent of Police Asra Garg, the District Collector K. Vivekanandan issued the detention order under Goondas Act on Tuesday.

The offenders were S. Vetrivel (24), V. Vadivel (24) of H. Veppampatti and G. Gurudev (26) of Mariampatti near Harur town in Dharmapuri district.

According to officials the trio were arrested in connection with the robbery from a school teacher, in and around Harur last month.

The detention orders under the Goondas Act were handed over to them at the Salem Central prison on Monday, the sources add.
