The Coimbatore City Police have detained three persons under Goondas Act.

A release from the police said that Parthiban and Praveen were detained under Goondas Act following orders from the City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan.

The police said that the two had cases pending against them at Big Bazaar, Peelamedu, Ramanthapuram and Saibaba Colony Police Stations. They were part of the nine-member gang that robbed two sovereign jewellery from a finance firm cashiser in December last. The police also detained Jayaram, 26, of Uttar Pradesh, under Goondas Act as he had four cases pending against him at the Peelamedu Police Station and one at the Race Course Police Station.

Killed in accidents

Gopal, 62, of Kovaipudur was killed in a road accident at K.G. Chavady on Saturday. The police said that the accident occurred when Gopal’s motorcycle collided with another motorcycle when he was returning home from Kerala. Sebin, 19, and Sharath, 19, the two youth who were on the other motorcycle suffered injuries. Kuppusamy, a weaver, of Periyanaickenpalayam was killed in a road accident on Oppanakara Street on Saturday. The police said that he was knocked down by a speeding vehicle.

Protest

Parents staged a road roko on Saturday demanding action against two heads of government schools at Valparai, who, they alleged were caught on camera in compromising position. They demanded that the two teachers be transferred.
