Three casual labourers were murdered at Karamadai Police Station limits in the early hours of Thursday.
According to the Coimbatore Rural Police, the victims were identified as Ramesh alias Mariappan, 41, of Therthottam,M. Sekar, 35, of Dharmapuri, and Velusamy of Maruthur, near Karamadai.
The police said that the accused, yet to be identified, had stabbed to death the three.
He had also thrown stones on their faces. The incident happened around 2 a.m. on Thursday.
According to the police, Ramesh was a coolie engaged in loading and unloading operations at the Karamadai vegetable market.
He was sleeping on a platform in the bus stand when the incident happened. Sekar had arrived in Karamadai a day earlier to work as construction labourer. He was sleeping in a thatched shed near the site when the accused had murdered him. Velusamy worked as a real estate agent.
The police said that the accused had denuded Velusamy before murdering him.
Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural, E.S. Uma said that the accused had stabbed the three in their neck. There were also stab injuries at various places in the bodies.
She said that the police had formed four teams to nab the accused.
Ms. Uma said that it was wrong to say that the accused was a North Indian speaking Hindi or psychopath, as some have suggested.
