The owner of lorry who lodged a false complaint with the police that the vehicle had been stolen was held, besides two others, who forged documents to cheat a private company. K. Chellamuthu (30) of Thumbalpatti in 2012 lodged a complaint with Annathanapatti police that his lorry, parked in a workshop went missing. On Tuesday, during a vehicle check in Seelanaickenpatti, the police intercepted a lorry driven by K. Palanivel (35) of Thumbalpatti. They found the documents were forged and the lorry belonged to Chellamuthu that was said to be stolen. Inquiry revealed that in order to cheat the finance company, from which he borrowed the money, Chellamuthu along with his friend Palanivel sought the help of Radhakrishnan of Shastri Nagar and made modifications in the Registration Certificate (RC) of the lorry. Inquiry also revealed that Radhakrishnan was involved in the illegal activity many times and two RC’s were recovered from him. The police registered a case under Section 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested the three.
