Organised in honour of late S. Rangarajan, who was Chairman of the Kennel Club of India
With the weather being ideal and the venue wearing a picturesque look, the dog show organised over the weekend by the South of India Kennel Club (SIKC) in honour of late S. Rangarajan, who was Chairman of the Kennel Club of India (KCI), provided an eyeful in terms of variety and quality to thousands of tourists from various parts of India and abroad.
Pointing out that the show had provided a visual treat to a large number of people in general and dog lovers in particular, SIKC president D. Krishnamurthy toldThe Hinduthat the non-stop flow of people to the venue reflected the growing popularity of the event.
Recalling S.Rangarajan's long association with dog shows in various parts of the world, he said the former chairman of KCI was a keen exhibitor and a well equipped international ‘all breeds' judge.
Mr. Krishnamurthy said that along with the memorial show, the 106th and 107th Championship Dog Shows and the Obedience Trials of the SIKC were also conducted and added that that a notable feature was the participation in significant numbers of Indian breeds.
For the first time, a Pashmi Hound was a participant on the show. Now there was a growing realisation among dog lovers that Indian hounds including Combai, Rajapalayam, Caravan and Rampur were like Dobermans, German Shepherds and Labradors.
He expressed the confidence that in a matter of time, the Indian hounds would gain global recognition.
Over 400 dogs representing a large number of breeds participated in this year's show.
A German Shepherd dog, Kingsway's Mika, owned by K. Harish Kapil was declared the best at the Rangarajan Memorial Show. It was also adjudged the Best in Show bred in India.
The second Best in Show was a Dachshund (Smooth Haired) Ch.Padpranpark's Wilson owned by T.K.Chandrashekar.
A Pomeranian St.Hubert-Tupelo-Kevin owned by S.Sanjeeth Kumar was the third Best in Show.
The Best Puppy in Show was a Beagle Sumo owned by D.Kishore Kumar.
In the 106th show, a German Shepherd, Ch.Yasko Vom Wolfen-Haus owned by Vishwas Raj was the Best in Show.
The second best was a Boxer, Ch.Bubs International Travel Man owned by Steve Almeida.
The third was a German Shepherd, Earl De Louis owned by K.Harish Kapil. The Best Puppy in Show was a Boxer, Silver Stone's Judge N jury owned by Edwin Manohar and A. Stephen.
In the 107th show, a German Shepherd, Rioburg's Palme owned by J.Dhanashekar was the best.
The second best was Ch.Bubs International Travel Man. The third was a Basset Hound Wimmiedos Setemoimhos owned by Pearl Gloria Gomes.
The Best in Show bred in India was the Boxer Silver Stone's Judge N Jury. The Best Puppy was Rioburg's Palme.
Among those who witnessed the Show were the former Governor of Tamil Nadu P.S.Rammohan Rao and the Nilgiris Collector Archana Patnaik.
Special prizes for the S. Rangarajan Memorial Dog Show were given away by Ramesh Rangarajan, Director, Kasturi & Sons Limited, publishers ofThe Hindu.
