Some parts of the locality inundated with sewage, causing hardship
Tuticorin: Residents near the South New Street here are facing a health hazard as they are living in a polluted and stinking atmosphere.
Some parts of the locality were inundated with sewage following a blockade in the drainage channel. The public and vehicle-users could not access to the road which connects W.G.C. Road and the South New Street.
Despite complaints, no concrete action was made as of yet, J. Abbas, a resident said.
“The bad condition has been there for the past four months as the drainage breaches the channel and spills into to the road. It badly affects the health of residents and many suffer from the stench, which causes illness. Our problems are being neglected”, he added.
S. Shajahan, Councillor of ward 30, said that we would collectively create a platform and carry out a mass restoration work to remove all blockades in the drainage channel on the approaching Wednesday to steer clear the stench.
Sources said that petty shop keepers encroached upon area near the drainage channel causing obstruction to sanitary workers to complete their task without any problem.
