Third phase of distribution of ‘kisan’ cards from November 21

Farmers can use cards to avail loan from banks to undertake farming operations

The third phase of the distribution of ‘Kisan’ cards to the farmers would be conducted for three days from November 21, said the Collector, S. Nagarajan.

According to the Collector, such special camps had already been organized for the benefit of farmers in Thovalai, Agastheeswaram, Rajakkamangalam unions and the surrounding areas in the first phase.

In the second phase, camps were conducted at Thuckalay, Kurunthencode and Thiruvattar unions.

The third phase of camps would be conducted for three days at Karungal government higher secondary school for the benefit of farmers in Killiyur area on November 21, Kuzhuthurai Government boy’s higher secondary school on November 22 for the benefit of farmers in Melpuram areas and Government boys higher secondary school at Marthandam on November 23 for the benefit of farmers in Munchirai areas.

On the basis of the area of the cultivable land of the farmer and the area selected for agriculture purpose, the Kisan cards would be distributed and in return the farmers could make use of the card to avail loan from the banks. For example, a sum of Rs.15,000 would be given to farmers to raise paddy crops on over one acre as loan, Rs. 30,000 for banana crop per acre (depending on the variety), Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 40,000 for the maintenance of coconut grove and Rs. 22,000 for the maintenance for rubber plantation per acre.

Besides distributing financial assistances to under take agriculture operations, it has been decided to give loans to the agriculture-allied sectors such as for the purchase of milch animals, setting up of poultry farms, purchase of tractor, tiller, harvester etc.

Sanction

On the spot sanction order would be given to the eligible farmers, said the Collector.
