A couple duped a temple priest at Ambur and decamped with two grams of gold thali and silver ‘sadari’ on Monday morning.

According to Ambur Town police, a man and woman, posing as a couple, had come to the Kothandarama Koil on Eswara Acharya Street in the town in a car. They had called the temple priest outside to perform pooja for the car. When the priest had come out, the woman had cut the gold ‘thali’ of the deity and also took away the ‘sadari’ made out of around 250 to 300 grams of silver.

Police said there were no devotees in the temple during this time. The couple then left in the car. However, the priest did not realise that the ‘thali’ and ‘sadari’ were missing until two devotees had come to the temple and he had looked around for the ‘sadari’

The Ambur Town police were informed of the theft. A case has been registered.
