500 students, in two categories, to take part in contest

The finals of The Hindu Young World Painting Competition 2012-13 will be held here at Seethatha Hall, Mahatma Montessori School, Surveyor Colony, Madurai on Sunday.

The participants have been intimated through call letters sent to their schools. A total of 500 students under two categories- seniors (Class VII to Class X) and juniors (class IV to VII) will take part in the competition, which is an integral part of NIE programme of The Hindu .

A total of 3,396 preliminary entries were received under the junior category and 1,137 entries under the senior category. Out of this, 250 members in each category were selected for the finals from 102 schools in Madurai (City and suburbs), Dindigul, Theni, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts.

The theme for the painting competition will be announced on the spot. Students are requested to bring drawing materials and drawing sheets will be provided there at the venue. The competition will begin at 9.30 a.m.

The prizes consist of cash awards of Rs.5,000, Rs.3,000 and Rs.2,000 for the first, second and third places respectively under the senior category and Rs.3000, Rs.2000 and Rs.1000 in the junior category. There would also be a consolation prize of Rs.500 to seven participants in both the categories. Participation certificates will be given to all the participants.

The presenting sponsor for the competitions is MIOT Hospitals, associate sponsor is Amrutanjan, Dabur, beverage sponsor is Fruitnik, venue sponsor is Mahatma School and regional sponsor is CUB, Kumbakonam.
