Book on Thayumanavar to be released
TIRUCHI: Release of a book on the saint-poet Sri Thayumanavar, recital of his poems highlighting the Vedantha and Siddhantha philosophy, conduct of cultural programmes will form some of the highlights of the two-day `Sri Thayumanava Adigal mukthi festival' to begin on Saturday at the Rockfort Sri Thayumanaswamy Temple here.
Addressing presspersons at the temple, its Executive Officer, P. Jayaraman, said the festival coincided with the `Vishaka' star in the month of `Thai' in the Tamil almanac, as it was this day in 1742 when Sri Adigal attained liberation (mukthi) at Ramanathapuram.
Tamil scholars and noted writers and poets will participate and analyse the religious works of Sri Thayumanavar on Saturday at the 100-pillar mandapam.
Special discourses would be held on both days.
The festival would also bring out the Tamil musical features of songs, especially in the `Thevaram pann' form, composed by Sri. Thayumanavar.
The book, `Iraivan Tahyum Aana Varalaaru', comprised the life and works of Sri Thayumanar and has been compiled by the temple authorities and it will be released during the festival.
