ERODE: As instructed by the Erode District Collector temporary electricity power connection was granted to 48 houses, built on the banks of River Cauvery at Karungalpalayam, Erode on Wednesday.

Power supply to hundreds of huts and tiled houses along River Cauvery at Asokapuram, Vairapalayam, Karungalpalayam and Agraharam were disconnected during the recent floods.

Encroachment

After the floods receded people who were moved to safer places returned to occupy these dwelling units. But no power supply was given till Tuesday.

They represented the Collector who asked the Electricity Board to grant temporary connections. There are reports that these huts are built encroaching the river bank. The encroachers are demanding alternative sites to leave the place.
