SALEM: Members of the Temple Priests Welfare Association staged a demonstration here on Tuesday urging the State Government to initiate immediate action against those who attacked the priests at a Government function held on February 25 in Chennai.
Condemning the attack, they appealed to the Government to provide compensation to the priests who sustained serious injuries during the incident.
The association members said that the Government should provide identity cards to the members of the welfare board established for the temple priests without any delay.
A function should be conducted in Salem to distribute the identity cards to the members, they said. The association also wanted the Government to re-constitute the welfare board with proper representation from them.
The members took out a procession from Sevvapet Fire Station to Old Collectorate complex in support of their demands.
