A temple constructed on encroached private land at Ganapathy near here was demolished on Wednesday by the Coimbatore Corporation officials. Police protection was provided to them.

According to official sources, land worth Rs. 2 crore was recovered and restored to its owners. The land had been fenced off now. A case been registered .

Arrested

The Kattoor Police have arrested an employee of a private firm for allegedly swindling Rs. 48 lakh. According to police sources,

A. Sathish Kumar, a resident of Uppilipalayam, had falsified sales records for a period of three years between 2010 and 2013.

A case was registered on Tuesday. The Kattoor Police are investigating.

Protest staged

A group of residents from Kalangal near Sulur in the district staged a protest at the Coimbatore Collectorate on Wednesday demanding the relocation of a liquor outlet in their locality.

The protestors said that the outlet, which was originally located near the Highway, was now located in proximity of several schools, a temple, a meditation centre for senior citizens and several residential quarters. They urged the district administration to remove the liquor outlet.

Traffic disrupted

Traffic was disrupted for around four hours on Valparai-Pollachi Road on the morning hours of Wednesday after heavy overnight rain uprooted a huge tree.

According to police, the tree fell near Solai Kuruchi. It took nearly four hours for the tree to be cut and removed.Suspended

City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan on Wednesday placed under suspension the Traffic Investigation Wing Special Sub-Inspector Singaram who was caught “demanding and accepting” a bribe of Rs. 5,000 from a petitioner by Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Tuesday.

Body found

A body of an unidentified male was found near L&T bypass Road near Singanallur on Wednesday. According to the police, he may have been a destitute. The Singanallur Police have registered a case and are investigating.
