It will serve six districts; medical education programme launched
CHENNAI: A telemedicine referral centre was inaugurated at Government Royapettah Hospital here on Thursday. The centre will serve districts of Kancheepuram, Krishnagiri, Rameswaram, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai and The Nilgiris.
As part of this initiative, a regular tele-continuing medical education programme was also started. The programme is available at the district headquarters hospital in the six districts.
It will ensure that doctors at the nearby primary health centres learn about the recent developments in their field of specialisation without having to travel long distances, said S.M. Chandramohan, nodal officer, Telemedicine, GRH.
Health Secretary V.K. Subburaj, who inaugurated the first CME, said the tele-CME was an attempt to reach out to medical officers in the districts.
