The customer base of telecom player Tata Docomo has almost doubled in the last two years in the State and has witnessed 21.8 per cent incremental growth in revenue market share in the third quarter of this fiscal.

It has jumped to fourth position in the State in terms of revenue market share as per the Telephone Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) report, Rajan Gupta, Chief Operating Officer, Tamil Nadu Circle, Tata Docomo, said here on Thursday.

Addressing the media, he said that the brand had been witnessing rapid growth owing to redefining of pricing paradigm and introducing per-second-rate model for mobile customers. “From around 3.5 million customers in the State two years back, we have touched a customer base of over 6.2 million.”

According to Mr. Gupta, introduction of mobile number portability has been encouraging as Docomo could draw new customers during the past financial year. “Roping in film actor Vijay as brand ambassador in August 2010 had helped in gaining popularity. We have a large network to cover 13,690 villages and 660 towns in Tamil Nadu.”
