‘Six cases booked against political parties’

“Sixty-three teams have been formed to monitor violation of the model code of conduct in the forthcoming Yercaud by-election. While 33 teams were formed initially, 30 more teams were formed a couple of days ago based on the increasing incidents of code violations,” District Electoral Officer K. Maharabushanam said.

He told reporters here on Wednesday that the teams have been strategically divided into four shifts.

A team of seven top district level officials has been formed to monitor proper functioning of the 63 teams, he said.

“Six cases have been booked against political parties without any disparity,” he said and refused to give details on the number of cases registered against various political parties.

Mr. Maharabushanam said that 25 villages have been identified as being sensitive and special police teams comprising inspectors and sub-inspectors of police have been formed to to avoid any untoward incident.
