SALEM: A two-member team from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) inspected the buildings constructed by the British about 150 years ago on the Salem Collectorate premises here on Thursday.

Official sources said that the inspection was carried out following petitions received by the ASI stating that the State Government had planned to construct modern structures after demolishing the old building having historical value. Hence, the ASI directed its Chennai circle to conduct an inspection and submit a report.

The team comprising of Deputy Superintending Archaeologist T. Arunraj and Conservation Assistant S. Mathivanan carried out the inspection. The members also verified various documents to ascertain the period of construction.
