Ponmudy releases guide to communication skills, grammar and composition

CHENNAI: Minister for Higher Education K. Ponmudy on Wednesday urged teachers to keep themselves abreast of modern teaching techniques to prepare the younger generation to face the highly competitive world.

At the second State conference of the Government College Teachers' Manram (Tamil Nadu) here, he said the Government was eliciting views from intellectuals and teachers to enhance the quality of education and make changes in the grading systems. The Government was also focussing on improving the infrastructure in colleges and universities.

The Minister released a guide to basic communication skills, grammar and composition compiled by V. Murugan and K. Mavadian and brought out by the Government College Teachers' Manram. Higher Education Secretary K. Ganesan also stressed the importance of imparting education that would guarantee employment.

Sudharshana Nachiappan, MP, said he would strive to get more incentives to teachers.

Earlier, participating in another function at Presidency College, the Minister inaugurated a round-the-clock national bio-informatics facility set up with Rs.20 lakh sanctioned by the Union Department of Bio-Technology. He commended the Department of Bio-Technology for choosing Presidency College as a nodal centre to disseminate information on bio-informatics and biotechnology.
