Hundreds of members of high and higher secondary school teachers' associations took out a procession from the E.R. Higher Secondary School to Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School, Teppakulam, to condole the recent murder of a school teacher Uma Maheswari by a student in a Chennai school.

According to the organisers, the participants have decided to contribute Rs. 00 each for the welfare of the departed teacher's family. They requested the Government to come out with a protection scheme for teachers, and bring about changes in education system.

The undue emphasis on marks and results must change; value based education must be put in place, G.Arachelvan, district unit president of Tamil Nadu Post Graduate Teachers' Association said.
