CUDDALORE: The Tamilaga Aarambapalli Aasiriyar Koottani has thanked Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for having abolished the consolidated pay system in teaching profession.

State general secretary of the Koottani S.Abdul Majid, said on Monday that this measure would benefit 53,000 teachers.

The consolidated pay system had caused not only anguish but also discrimination among the teaching community.

Mr Majid said it augured well as it would induce the teachers to put in their best and make Tamil Nadu number one State in education.

The Cuddalore unit of the Tamil Nadu Government Officials' Union thanked the Chief Minister for having announced the strike period April 10, and, from July 1 to 4, 2003 as "on duty." District president of the TNGOU N. Karmegavannan said this would enthuse the officials to involve fully in the implementation of the government schemes.
