VELLORE: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has selected 1,075 students from VIT University in the first slot for the 2009 June passing-out batch at campus interviews conducted at the university here from June 2 to 4.

G. Viswanathan, Chancellor of VIT University, said in a release that out of the 1,696 students who appeared for the TCS online test, 1,416 qualified. Students from B.Tech. (Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering) fared equally well along with those from the IT branches. TCS also selected 128 M.S. (Software Engineering) students out of 166 students in the postgraduate stream.

IT majors such as Microsoft, Google, Yahoo and Oracle visited VIT for placements in the last academic year and are expected to visit VIT later this year. The VIT has topped the campus placements in the last five years throughout the country in the private sector, Mr. Viswanathan said.
