“No action has been taken to reduce the price of LPG cylinder”
RAMANATHAPURAM: Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko has urged the State government to fully absorb the tax component on petrol, diesel and others.
A marginal reduction of sales tax that was just 2 percent on diesel was an eyewash and would not bail out the people, who were severely hit by steep increase of inflation. Sales tax on petrol was still untouched. Similarly, no action was taken on gas, which was hiked by Rs.50 per cylinder. Mr. Vaiko said the unprecedented hike on petroleum products would not only affect the common men but also all others.
Similarly, the supply of gas cylinders to a family was restricted to just eight cylinders a year. It was totally unacceptable.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, he said the State and Central governments had failed to protect the innocent fishermen of Tamil Nadu, who were targeted by Sri Lankan Navy.
It had opened fire more than 900 times on Tamil Nadu fishermen since 1983, killing several innocent fishermen, including Santhiyahu a few days ago, destroying hundreds of boats.
Finding fault with the Indian Navy for failing to protect its fishermen, the MDMK leader said it had indirectly helped the Sri Lankan Navy to attack them by sharing vital information.
Even after losing several fishermen, the State and Central governments had not taken up the issue seriously, Mr. Vaiko said.
