Bonded labour: task force to be set up

A district-level task force to identify bonded labourers and to eradicate bonded labour system will be set up jointly for Tirupur and Coimbatore districts soon.

Sources said that the task force committee would be headed by a judicial officer in the rank of civil judge (junior division), two lawyers, an official not less than in the rank of tahsildar and two para-legal volunteers.

The bonded labourers were recently rescued by NGOs, police and revenue officials from units at Kangayam and Avinashi in Tirupur district where the workers were found subjected to hard labour and given cramped accommodation on the unit premises itself.
