CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association (TANSTIA) has sought the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s intervention and support for the micro and small scale industries to ensure liberalised credit flow and financial support to withstand the recession.

In a press release, TANSTIA president D. Gandhikumar said on Sunday “SSIs are in dire need of the support from the government in all their procurement with purchase preference. Hence, there should be at least 40 per cent reservation for them in all the government procurements. Besides, moratorium should be granted on all statutory payments due to the Government till the situation improves.”

He requested the Centre to reconsider the reduction of Central Sales Tax to 1 per cent to enhance opportunities for micro and SSIs and set up a raw material price control mechanism.
