Driver was seriously injured; cleaner escaped with minor injuries
A tanker lorry carrying palm oil from Andhra to Tamil Nadu fell onto the dry bed of the Vaniyar after crashing into the parapet wall of the overbridge near Harur. The accident took place when the driver R. Govindaraj (43) lost control of the vehicle while travelling on the overbridge on the Harur-Salem Highways in the early hours of Saturday. Severely injured, lorry driver Govindaraj was taken to the Salem Government Hospital. Cleaner Munusamy (30) escaped with minor injuries. Owing to the accident, oil from the tanker leaked into Vaniyar. The actual cost of the palm oil was not immediately known. A. Pallippatti police have registered a case and are investigating.
