Over one lakh books available in library

Thanjavur: Tamil University was planning to mobilise Rs.one crore through the patron scheme to be introduced for the university library, Subramaniam, Vice-Chancellor, has said.

The university library was opened to the public on Sunday. He distributed identity cards to people who wanted to use the library on Sundays.

He said that those who wanted to become patrons of the library would have to pay Rs.1000. "There are 1.40 lakh books in the library.

"More than 350 Tamil and English journals are available in the library besides 11 newspapers.

"Students, research scholars, teachers and public should use the rare books."

He said that a book exhibition will be held at Rajah Serfoji college ground in June as part of silver jubilee celebrations of the university.

150 publishers expected

One hundred and fifty publications were interested to participate in the exhibition.

He distributed identity cards for using the university library to M.Ramamurthy, President, Pillaiyar Patti panchayat, K.Jayakumar of Lions Club of Thanjavur Temple city, N.S.P.Vijayakumar, Secretary of Rotary Club of Thanjavur Kings, M.Arumugam, Exnora President, and N.Mohandoss, nephrologist, Thanjavur Medical college.
