MADURAI: Madurai Tamil Isai Sangam will organise the 33rd Tamil Isai Vizha at Madurai Raja Muthiah Mandram here from March 6 to 15.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, the managing trustee, R. Sekkappa Chettiar, said that the Sangam had been conferring ‘Muthamizh Peraringar’ award on scholars who had contributed to Tamil literature, music and theatre, since 1995. For 2008, the title would be conferred AR. Somasundaram, Tamil poet. The award carries a cash prize of Rs.15, 000, a gold medal and a citation.

Some of the recipients of the award include popular theatre personality R.S. Manohar (1996), classical singer Sirkazhi Sivachidambaram (1997), clarionet expert A.K.C. Natarajan (1999), spiritual leader Kundrakudi Ponnambala Desigar (2000), violin maestro Lalgudi Jeyaraman (2004), Bombay Sisters C. Saroja and C. Lalitha (2005) and flute maestro N. Ramani (2006).

The 10-day music festival will feature music programmes, Bharathanatyam and patti mandram.
