Aspires to do MBBS despite good show
VELLORE: J. Keerthana, whose father is an English teacher and mother a Tamil pundit, became a State topper in Telugu subject in the Plus-II examinations, though her mother tongue is Tamil.
A student of Sunbeam Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Vellore, Keerthana secured 192 in Telugu. Her father K.M. Jotheeswarapillai is a Post Graduate Teacher in English at a Government School. Her mother Jamunadevi has completed M.A. (Tamil) and B.Ed. and works as a secondary grade teacher. When asked what made her to choose Telugu as language subject since her mother tongue was Tamil, Mr. Jotheeswarapillai said: “Our native village Vinnampalli is situated near Andhra Pradesh border and there are lots of Telugu people. This factor influenced her to take Telugu as language subject”.
But Keerthana has more reasons. “My grandfather Munirathnam is an inspiration for me to take Telugu as language subject. He bought me lot of Telugu books and encouraged me to read Telugu. I learn Carnatic music. My music teacher told me that Telugu is an apt language for learning Carnatic music. My favourite Telugu poet is Sri Sri and favourite author is Nayana Krishnakumari,” she said.
Despite her good show in the language subject, she aspires to do MBBS and hopes she would get a seat. Her overall total is 1177.
