The taluk offices at Ambur, Vaniyambadi and Tirupattur have been flooded with applications for new ration cards at the end of a special camp held on Tuesday and Wednesday. Several persons whose cards were cancelled after 100 per cent verification have also applied for the cards at the camps.

The Ambur taluk office received a total of 3,318 applications for new ration cards on the first day of the camp, according to officials. “On Tuesday, we also received applications from 49 persons whose cards had been cancelled after 100 per cent verification. On Wednesday, we received approximately 8,000 new applications for ration cards and 54 applications from persons whose cards had been cancelled,” an official said.

At Tirupattur, a total of 11,423 applications for new cards were received. As many as 75 applications were received from persons whose cards were cancelled after 100 per cent verification. A total of 15 counters were set up to receive applications, an official said.

A total of 10,672 applications for new cards were received at the Vaniyambadi taluk. On Tuesday, a total of 2,742 applications including 12 on cancelled cards, were received. On Wednesday, as many as 7,872 applications for new cards and 58 applications from persons whose cards had been cancelled were received, an official said.
