Members of the Central team on their last day of their visit to the State met State Public Works Secretary M. Saikumar and other representatives of the government here on Sunday evening as part of their assessment of the situation in the Cauvery delta.

It was learnt that the State officials informed the team that given the existing rate of flows, the storage of the Mettur dam would last only till November 1.

From Monday, the drawal would be stepped up to one and a half thousand million cubic feet (tmc ft). The Central authorities brought to their attention the need for ensuring adequate flow of water to farmers. Originally, the team was to have the wrap-up meeting on Monday. But, it held the discussion on Sunday following a message from Delhi that an interim report was urgently required.
