Coimbatore: Revenue Divisional Officer M. Balachandran on Monday conducted peace talks among representatives of the Periyar Colony that houses 58 Dalit families, residents of Jeeva Street and Hindu Outfit activists over relocating a temple on the 30-foot Jeeva Road in Ward 10 in the city.

On Saturday, Corporation, Revenue and Police personnel had removed a wall across Jeeva Street that denied access for the Dalit families in Periyar Nagar to Kamarajar Road.

However, relocation of the temple remained a contentious issue.

At the talks before the RDO on Monday, it was decided that the temple could be relocated to an alternative site in the same area.

The second round of talks is scheduled for Thursday.
