Collector V. Rajaraman has asked the farmers in the district to follow drip irrigation techniques to maximise the yield and minimise the use of water.

Inaugurating the Farmers' Day celebration at Chettinad near Karaikudi on Thursday, he said though the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and other agencies had been introducing new farming techniques and technologies to modernise farming, only a section of farmers came forward to adopt them. The adaptation rate was very low among the farmers. They should come forward to take up these methods, which were developed and demonstrated by the scientists in the farmers' fields.
