Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing on Sunday arrested Aravakurichi tahsildar A. Govindaraj (53) on charges of demanding and accepting bribe amounting to Rs. 10,000 as Deepavali gift from a blue metal quarry owner.

Quarry owner N. Veeran (50) of Aravakurichi had lodged a complaint with the DVAC in Tiruchi that Mr. Govindaraj had demanded a bribe of Rs. 10,000.

Mr. Govindaraj was caught while accepting the bribe money at his quarters at Aravakurichi.

Later, DVAC personnel searched his house at Thanthonrimalai and recovered incriminating documents and cash amounting to Rs. 4.30 lakh.

He was shifted to Tiruchi to be produced before the special DVAC court there. Further investigations are on.
