Tirupur: Viswanathan, a Tahsildar and Meenra John, a retired Tahsildar were arrested by the sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Thursday on charges of demanding and accepting bribe.

According to DVAC sources, Thirumurthy (48) of Tirupur bought 50 cents of land from Subramanian of the same area and had approached the sub-registrar office for registration. Since the value of the land was quoted less than the value fixed in the guideline, Mr. Thirumurthy was asked to obtain a valuation certificate for fixing the stamp paper value from a Tahsildar. After seven months, when Mr. Thirumurthy approached Viswanathan, who was holding additional charge of Tahsildar, was once again reportedly asked to approach Meenra John since the file was originally dealt with by him.
