COIMBATORE: A centre for excellence in switchgear technology was opened on the PSG College of Technology premises here on Friday.
The institute and Larson and Toubro Limited have jointly set up the centre at a cost of about Rs. 20 lakhs.
Principal of the college, R. Rudramoorthy, told presspersons that L & T recruited 10 to 15 students from the institute every year.
The centre would help the students have hands on experience even while they were at college.
All new low voltage switchgear manufactured by L & T would be displayed at the centre.
According to a release, the "PSG-L&T Centre for Excellence in LV Switchgear" would have all facilities for selection and design of circuits using low voltage switchgears and testing of various protective devices.
It would be open for industries too and would have software facilities that would help the units identify the right product needed for their use.
The centre was inaugurated by the General Manager, Electrical Standard Products, L&T Limited, Ajit Singh, in the presence of G. Rangasamy, Managing Trustee of the PSG Institutions.
