Udhagamandalam: With the inflow of tourists during the current Autumn and Onam seasons falling below expectations, people dependent on tourism for a livelihood – especially those in the hospitality and travel sectors – are worried.

Speaking to The Hindu here on Saturday, the Secretary, Nilgiri Hotels and Restaurants Association (NHRA) N.Chandrashekar said that though the flow was encouraging during the weekends, the same thing cannot be said about the other days.

Attributing the reduction partly to the reluctance of the people to travel on account of the swine flu, the General Manager of a Western-style hotel Deepak Kumar Haldar said that his occupancy after the Independence Day extended weekend had not been very good.

The restrictions imposed on the movement of vehicles on the Mysore – Bandipur – Gudalur Road between dusk and dawn had also hit tourist traffic.
