Six suspects involved in several chain-snatching offences were nabbed by the Adyar police on Thursday. Gold jewellery worth about Rs. 5 lakh and vehicles used to commit the crimes were recovered from them.

According to police sources, Seenu alias Burma Seenu (40) and his associate Saravanan accused of snatching a chain from a woman after assaulting her, were apprehended by a special team.

“Seenu is involved in about 16 cases, including the murder of a Jailor in the Central Prison here a few years ago. He was detained under the Goondas Act and released from prison recently,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Adyar) M.C. Sarangan said.

The team formed on the instructions of Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran also arrested K. Bala alias Balakrishnan (26) of Periyar Nagar, M. Praveen alias Jakki (23) of Panaiyur, T. Suri alias Suresh (23) of Indira Nagar and S. Murali (24) Neelankarai.

An autorickshaw and motorcycle used by the accused were seized, the sources added.
