ERODE: Anomalies in distribution of goods through the public distribution system came to light when a team of officials from the Cooperative Department conducted surprise checks recently.

A release from the Department says employees found involved in frauds were fined Rs. 13,301. The team also enquired customers about the quantity of goods being supplied in 50 shops. The release cautions employees not to commit mistakes and urges public to be vigilant. And, adds that those found smuggling goods meant for PDS will be booked under Goondas Act. Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Erode, R. Indumathi, ordered the inspections.
