Villagers from Kanchikoil submit petition to District Collector
Residents from many villages in Kanchikoil block of the district have urged the district administration to supply water to their areas through tanker lorries as the piped supply was grossly inadequate.
They said that a majority of the villages in the block were getting piped water supply once in 10 days. The frequency of supply had gone up to 15 days in a few villages. Many of the public borewells in the villages went dry.
The local bodies were not able to meet the growing water requirement in the block with the existing water supply schemes. The pumping stations could not be operated continuously due to frequent disruptions in power supply. Water consumption also increased as the temperature had crossed 37 degree Celsius in the district. As a result, the residents wanted the district administration to make arrangements to supply water through the tankers.
More than 50 residents from the block came to the Collectorate on Monday carrying empty plastic pots and submitted a petition in this regard to the officials.
