DINDIGUL: Summer festival and the two-day flower festival will commence in Kodaikanal on May 22 and conclude on May 29, according to Collector M. Valallar.
In a release issued here on Wednesday, he said that these two festivals would be held at Bryant Park near the lake. The Department of Tourism would arrange cultural programmes on all festival days in the Park. Track and field events, cycling and marathon and volleyball, football and hockey tournaments would be conducted on Moonjikkal ground.
Besides, rowing, catch a duck and fishing competition would also be held to attract tourists. Revenue Minister I. Periasamy was expected to inaugurate the show, he added. The Collector had ordered hotels and restaurants to display price list of food items for the convenience of tourists.
Even before the commencement of summer festival, the season had picked up in the last week of April. The crowd was uncontrollable during the weekends. The traffic police had a tough time at that time in regulating traffic in the town and at tourists' spots. Number of vehicles reaching the hill was also on the rise week after week.
In the meanwhile, horticulture officials had developed a flower garden in the Bryant Park, one of the star attractions of the park.
The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Division-IV) Limited had started operating more services to Kodaikanal from Dindigul, Batlagundu, Tiruchi, Madurai, Karur, Theni and other southern districts to meet the growing demand. Special buses were being operated between tourists spots also.
