The students’ protest against the Sri Lankan Government and demanding international probe into the alleged war crimes continued in the city on Thursday.

According to the Coimbatore City Police, 54 students of various colleges in the city attempted to barge into the All India Radio office on Trichy Road.

The protesting students, who were led by those from the Coimbatore Law College, also demanded economic blockade against the island nation.

They raised slogans and attempted to enter the AIR premises but were prevented by the Ramanathapuram Police from doing so. The police later removed them from the place.

In Town Hall, 30-odd students under the Tamil Nadu Eelam Supporters Students Organisation staged a protest for similar demands. They also burnt the flag of the Congress Party. The move followed the attack on students allegedly by Congress members in Tiruchi.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa appealed to the students to give up their protest. Following the students’ protest, all colleges have been closed.
