Coimbatore: Students of the Cherraan’s Institute of Health Sciences who have been on a series of agitations since Thursday, including a fast unto death, on Monday staged a demonstration here seeking Government intervention to resolve their grievances.

Students were on an agitation since Thursday demanding an end to “fleecing by the management in the name of fee for various courses, collection of fine under various heads and lack of adequate infrastructure for various courses”.

They thronged the Collectorate and presented a petition on Thursday. Collector V. Palanikumar who informed the Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR Medical University authorities also ordered an RDO inquiry into the incident and sought a report.

The students, however, commenced a fast unto death and as many as 26 students swooned by Saturday evening. The management kept holding talks with the students’ representatives for resolving the strike.On Monday, expressing displeasure at the evasive replies of the management and the delay on the part of the official machinery in resolving the issue, the students staged a demonstration in front of Red Cross Society buildings on Huzur Road in the city.

The students later reached the Collectorate where they presented a memorandum to the Collector. Student representatives said that their talks with the Collector yielded results. Mr.Palanikumar has promised to resolve their grievances. With this, the college and hostel that was remaining closed since Sunday was opened in the afternoon.
