Every student should strive to develop and nurture moral courage, observed the Commandant, Madras Regimental Centre, Brigadier S. Suresh Kumar. He was presiding over an investiture ceremony organised at the Lawrence School in Lovedale, near here, on Wednesday to swear-in prefects for the academic year 2013-2014.
Though physical and mental courage are essential particularly for a career in the army, “only moral courage will help us face the challenges of the future and make our country a super power”.
Urging the students who are privileged to be groomed in institutions like the Lawrence School to make the most of the opportunity, he said that they should endeavour to excel in all their activities.
Addressing the gathering, School Headmistress Sangita Chima said that such occasions help the younger generation understand the nuances of leadership, individual development and team work. They help in making the student community strong and vibrant. They also promote values which are strong and which the ‘men in uniform’ help reflect.
Underscoring the significance of the occasion, teacher Anita Prabhu said that the prefectural system in such institutions identifies students who become synonymous with excellence, innovation, honour, integrity and outstanding quality and service.
Brigadier Kumar, Ms. Chima and others adorned the prefects including the Head Boy Ranjeeb Kamal Bora and Head Girl Nisqua Pillai with epaulettes.
