: Management students of National Institute of Technology – Tiruchi (NIT-T) were provided practical insights into business analysis by IT professionals during a day-long workshop on Saturday.
Titled ‘Emerging Practices in Business Analysis and IT Consulting’, the workshop organised by the Institute’s Department of Management Studies, witnessed senior officials of leading IT companies sharing their expertise with students.
Eliciting students’ thoughts on business analysis and its applications , K.Kamesh, Senior Director-Consulting at Cognizant Technology Solutions, explained the importance of business analysis through live examples . His key note address mapped the future of a business analyst and how he/she can move up the ladder to become a Business Technology Analyst or a Business Architect. V.S. Sivakumar, senior consultant, Tata Consultancy Services, gave a practitioner’s view to the field of business analysis, vividly portraying how an IT service provider matures from a vendor to become a partner with the clients and how the role of a business analyst transforms during the course.
The lecture by Siva Padmanabhan, Vice President-Customer solutions, Flextronics Ltd., defined Business Analysis as an art and a science. He touched upon cloud computing, stake holder management and change management and explained the distinction between custom software development and packaged software by comparing the roles that a Business Analyst plays in both cases.
Jaswinder Singh, Senior Consultant-Wipro, spoke on the trends and emerging practices and the role of analytics solutions in the consumer goods industry while Barath Srinivasan, Consultant-Wipro, elaborated on Trade Promotion Optimization and the service lines available for the Business Analysts in Consulting, Business Application Services and Global Infrastructure Services.
A presentation on Information Risk Management by Kumaravel Ramanathan, Consultant-Wipro, threw light on the standards pertaining to security management, and Karthik Sundarrajan, Syntel, emphasized on the Best Practices in Business Analysis and IT consulting, while Siva Balakrishnan Practice Director-RLT, Syntel Inc, explained the demarcation between a Business Model and a Business Concept. R.Santhana Krishnan, Senior Principal-Consulting, Infosys, introduced students to a new perspective by looking at business analysis through business analytics.
Presiding over, T. Selvaraj, Dean - Institute Development, said that the thought process or an idea is what paves way for success. G. Kannabiran, Professor and Dean – Research and Consultancy, also spoke.
