Third-year students of a private aided college blocked traffic at Kondalampatti junction here on Friday demanding free laptops.

The students of Salem Sowdeshwari College claimed that the District administration had recently dispatched laptops to be distributed free to students of first and second years. When the students of third year made enquiries, they were told that these laptops were meant for distribution to second and first year students only.

Road blockade

Disappointed, the third year students, some 200 of them, resorted to road blockade demanding immediate distribution of laptops to them too.

They said that since they would soon have to leave the college, they should be given the gadgets on priority basis.

Police and Revenue officials rushed to the spot and held talks with the agitating students.

Later the students were taken to Collectorate where they presented a memorandum to District Revenue Officer N. Prasanna Venkatesan who promised to take necessary action.
