The death of a 10-year-old boy in a road accident on the Tiruchi-Karur national highway at Sirugamani, a few kilometres from the city, sparked off protest with villagers resorting to road blockade on the highway on Friday evening.

Police sources said a mini goods carrier rammed a car from behind after the vehicle driver applied brake to avoid hitting a pedestrian crossing the road. In the impact of the collision, the car overturned and knocked down the boy, R. Balasaravanan, who was walking on the roadside. He died on the spot. Irked over the incident, a group of villagers resorted to road blockade demanding establishment of speed breakers.
