The fast being observed by students in support of the Sri Lankan Tamils continued for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday. Twenty students of Government Law College and the six from Government Arts College are on a fast.

Two students who were admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College (CMCH) on Wednesday returned to the fast venue. Kumar, a Law College student, was admitted to the ICU of CMCH on Thursday.

Another group of nearly 50 students continued with the fast at the Bharathiar University for the third day.

Nearly 150 students gathered there to express solidarity. The police removed a group of 37 college students who attempted to block a train at the Coimbatore Railway Junction.

Students from several private colleges in the city gathered at Nava India on Avinashi Road and near another college at Peelamedu and raised slogans.

Some students in a private college began a signature campaign.

According to the police, students blocked the road at six locations in the city.

The students said they want the Union Government to vote in favour of the U.S.-sponsored resolution against Sri Lanka.
