Collect 800 kilograms of litter along one kilometre stretch

Students of Dr. Sivanthi Aditanar College of Engineering, Tiruchendur, launched a coastal cleanup programme along the Tiruchendur coast on Saturday.

In just about two hours of the programme, which commenced at 10 a.m., 800 kilograms of litter dropped along one kilometre of the coastline were collected, according to a statement issued here.

The trash includes debris from shoreline recreation activity, fishing activity and dumped waste.

The collected debris was then disposed. Indian Concrete Institute – Student’s Chapter of Department of Civil Engineering, of the college had organised the cleanup.

Forty student volunteers and five faculty members were involved in cleaning up the marine debris.

N. Gladwin Gnana Asir, faculty, Department of Civil Engineering and other faculty members K. Bala Shanmuganathan, P. Berin Anto, J. Arunraj Christadoss and J. Veni Suganthi took part in the programme.
